Job Title: Primary School Librarian Reports to: Head of Primary The Primary School Librarian will manage and promote a dynamic learning environment in our school library. They will inspire a love for reading and learning, manage library operations, and support literacy development across the primary school. They will also actively participate in school-wide reading initiatives, including "Author of the Week" and Book Week activities, and work closely with students, staff, and a team of student librarians. Key Responsibilities: 1. Library Operations: a) Manage the signing in and out of library books, ensuring an efficient and organized system. b) Maintain accurate records of borrowed and returned materials. c) Order new books and resources in consultation with teaching staff, ensuring a diverse and engaging library collection. d) Catalogue and organize new books, keeping the library updated and relevant to curriculum needs. e) Monitor and manage the library budget for resources and materials. 2. Reading Promotion and Literacy Development: a) Organize and run the "Author of the Week" program to spotlight various authors and introduce students to new literary works. b) Actively contribute to school-wide literacy events, including planning and participating in Book Week activities such as author visits, reading challenges, and themed days. c) Promote reading for pleasure through displays, book recommendations, and storytelling sessions. 3. Student Engagement and Supervision: a) Manage and guide a team of student librarians, helping them develop leadership and organizational skills while assisting with library duties. b) Supervise students during break times, ensuring the library is a calm and productive space where students can read, complete work, or engage in library-related activities. c) Provide support and recommendations to students based on their reading levels and interests. 4. Extra-Curricular Activities (CCA): a) Lead a Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) related to library studies and books, encouraging students to explore topics such as creative writing, book reviews, and library management. b) Foster a community of readers and develop students’ understanding of the broader world of literature. Qualifications and Skills: Previous experience working in a school library or a similar educational environment is preferred. Strong organizational and administrative skills. Passionate about children's literature and promoting literacy. Ability to inspire and engage young learners. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in managing a small team and organizing events is an advantage. Personal Attributes: Enthusiastic and proactive with a love for books and learning.
