The Position
The Senior Project Manager (Construction) of Data Center is responsible for the delivery of data
center facilities and data center solutions that meet the business needs of Iron Mountain Data
Centers and its colocation customers throughout APAC. The incumbent will serve as Design and
Construction’s primary interface to deliver the built solutions and proposals for new data centers
(greenfield or brownfield) and existing data centers, and will provide design/construction solution
and construction management as needed as a senior member of the Design and Construction team.
This person must have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of data center design,
construction and project management, as well as transitional changes of trends in the data center
world.
The Responsibilities
- Supports Director, Design and Construction APAC in the development of data center solutions within new facilities or additions to existing facilities.
- Support Global Accounts and Solutions Engineering in developing solutions (including project costs, project timeline, RFS dates, etc) to support the pursuit of business opportunities within APAC
- Lead and manage third party architectural and engineering teams in the conceptual and schematic design of data center projects in accordance with Iron Mountain data center design standards, construction budgets and schedule requirements
- Lead and manage third party general contractors to deliver the core and shell of the data center facilities and MEP installations, including managing the Long Lead Equipment
- Work with outside parties such as developers, consultants, equipment manufacturers, construction managers, third party project management firms and authorities in order to deliver projects
- Provide technical analysis and development of existing/proposed architectures and products for current and future business lines
- Monitor and manage change management during the construction progress so as to track cost variations during the project, to ensure that the project costs are kept within Budget.
- Assist in evaluation of potential data center properties. Interface with outside consultants and Iron Mountain departments in evaluating opportunities
- Provide project oversight to include budget, schedule and overall product delivery on assigned critical infrastructure activities and projects
- Ensure quality delivery of the as built facilities on time
- Lead a team of on-site Assistant Project Manager and technicians
- Promote a responsible platform of inclusion and diversity within the Design and Development team
The Person
- In-depth knowledge of the colocation data center business and the recent market developments
- In-depth knowledge of complex electrical, mechanical, life safety and control systems associated with critical facilities or data centers
- Knowledge of how to develop capital budgets and forecasts
- Professional written, presentation, and customer relationship skills
- Creating, building, and managing relationships with key suppliers, business partners, and internal customers are vital to this position
- Ability to travel when required
- Ability to travel internationally when required
- Education/Experience: professional degree required, Master degree preferred / 7 - 10 years required, 10 + years preferred
- A minimum of seven years’ experience in managing project management teams.
- A minimum of ten years in construction project delivery
- Professional Engineering license is preferred, but not required
- Proficient in Google Workspaces
- Proficient in Autocad and other .DWG software
- Proficiency in Malay (written and spoken) and Chinese is an added advantage.
