Job Summary
The Head of School - Nursing is responsible for leading and managing all academic, operational, and marketing aspects of the School of Nursing. This includes curriculum development, faculty and staff retention, student success, marketing activities to boost student enrolment, and ensuring compliance with local and international nursing education standards. The role involves providing strategic leadership to maintain the School's reputation for excellence in nursing education, research, and clinical practice, while ensuring alignment with the institution's goals and values.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Lead the development and implementation of the School of Nursing’s strategic plan, aligned with the institution's overall objectives.
- Oversee the direction and continuous development of nursing programs, ensuring they remain relevant to industry trends and standards.
- Foster a culture of academic excellence, professional development, and innovative teaching.
Academic Management:
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality nursing education programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including curriculum development, course design, and evaluation.
- Collaborate with faculty and administration to develop and update nursing curricula that meet national and international standards.
- Ensure the provision of up-to-date clinical training and simulation facilities to prepare students for real-world nursing practice.
Faculty Leadership, Development, and Retention:
- Recruit, mentor, and retain qualified faculty members to support the delivery of academic and clinical programs.
- Develop and implement strategies for faculty retention, ensuring a supportive and engaging work environment.
- Encourage faculty participation in research, clinical practice, and professional development.
- Oversee performance evaluations of faculty members and provide constructive feedback to support their growth and development.
Manpower Planning:
· Involve in workforce planning and forecasting, ensuring the School has adequate staff and faculty to meet educational and operational demands.
· Collaborate with the institution's HR department to develop recruitment strategies and plan for long-term staffing needs.
Student Success and Enrollment Management:
- Ensure the implementation of student support programs aimed at enhancing retention, graduation rates, and academic success.
- Collaborate with admissions and marketing teams to achieve student recruitment targets, ensuring steady growth in student numbers.
- Oversee student admissions, placements, and career services to support graduates in achieving successful nursing careers.
- Foster an inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environment for students.
Marketing and Outreach:
Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the School of Nursing and its programs, attracting prospective students and partners.
Collaborate with the institution’s marketing department to create promotional materials, social media campaigns, and outreach initiatives.
Represent the School of Nursing at educational fairs, open days, and other marketing events to boost visibility and student enrollment.
Research and Clinical Practice:
Promote and support research initiatives within the School of Nursing, encouraging faculty and students to contribute to nursing science.
Establish partnerships with healthcare organizations to provide clinical placements, internships, and research opportunities for students.
Encourage faculty and student involvement in clinical practice to ensure relevance to healthcare needs.
Accreditation and Compliance:
- Ensure that all nursing programs comply with local regulatory bodies such as the Malaysian Nursing Board (Lembaga Jururawat Malaysia), the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), and international nursing accreditation bodies.
- Maintain high standards of education and clinical practice that align with global nursing education standards.
- Oversee the accreditation processes, preparing the School for audits and external reviews.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, hospitals, clinics, and nursing organizations to maintain strong industry relationships.
- Serve as a liaison between the School and relevant professional bodies, government agencies, and external stakeholders.
- Represent the School at external events, conferences, and forums to build partnerships and strengthen the School’s reputation.
Operational and Financial Management:
- Manage the budget for the School of Nursing, ensuring effective use of resources and adherence to financial goals.
- Oversee the School’s administrative functions, including scheduling, resource allocation, and facilities management.
- Provide regular reports on the School’s academic, operational, and marketing performance to the Dean or Provost.
Business Development and Community Engagement
- Lead efforts to generate revenue, ensuring the Schools meets its financial targets and enhances its financial sustainability.
- Represent the school in marketing and outreach activities, strengthening its profile and building strategic partnerships with industry, alumni, and other stakeholders.
- Promote the School’s involvement in community and industry partnerships, enhancing its impact and relevance.
Requirements
Education:
- PhD or Doctorate in Nursing or a related field (Master's degree in Nursing with extensive experience may be considered).
- Registered Nurse (RN) with relevant qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Nursing Board.
Experience:
- · Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in nursing education, with at least 3-5 years in a senior academic leadership role.
- · Experience in curriculum development, academic administration, marketing, and clinical practice.
- · Proven track record in research, scholarly publications, and contributions to nursing education.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead and inspire a diverse team of faculty and students.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- In-depth knowledge of nursing education standards, accreditation processes, healthcare industry trends, and student enrollment strategies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain high academic standards.
- Strong understanding of clinical nursing practice and its application in educational programs.
Other Requirements:
- Familiarity with the Malaysian healthcare system and nursing regulations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare partners, regulatory bodies, and marketing teams.
- Commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the School of Nursing.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: RM9,000.00 - RM11,000.00 per month
