A Pastry Chef / Assistant Pastry Chef assist a Pastry Head Chef to runs a central kitchen, and report to the Pastry Head Chef. The role is made up of many varying responsibilities including:

  • Operating and managing the pastry section of central kitchen and liaising with the Pastry Head Chef to ensure a successful working environment.
  • Preparing ingredients and handling products and other kitchen equipment.
  • To be responsible and developing new products of our customers.
  • Monitoring the stock of raw materials and packaging materials.
  • Ordering new supplies, ingredients, and equipment for the pastry section, when needed, and within budget.
  • Ensuring their section of the kitchen adheres to safety and health regulations.
  • Supervising and training staff members.
  • Monitoring production and waste control.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of kitchen and food safety standards.
  • Checking FSMS documentation.

To land a job as a Pastry Chef / Assistant Pastry Chef will need:

  • Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking, or relevant field.
  • Food Handling Certificate
  • Valid Typhoid vaccination
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of baking techniques and the pastry-making process
  • Awareness of manual handling techniques
  • Experience of kitchen equipment
  • Understandable level of English spoken and written
  • Malaysian Citizenship

Desirable and useful but not necessary qualifications include:

  • Food Safety Management System (FSMS)

  • Knowledge and ability to run a central kitchen.
  • Great attention to detail and creativity skills
