The OHSE Officer is responsible for managing and implementing Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental standards across a group of schools and education centres. This role is to ensure a safe and compliant environment for students, staff and visitors by addressing health, safety and environmental concerns related to catering, security and school buildings. The OHSE Officer will conduct risk assessments, audits and provide training to foster a proactive safety culture across all campuses.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop, implement and oversee OHSE policies and procedures across school campuses and RK centres ensuring compliance with Malaysian regulations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits for school buildings, playgrounds, sports facilities, and other areas, addressing potential hazards proactively.
- Monitor food safety and hygiene standards in school kitchens, working closely with catering teams to ensure compliance with health and safety protocols. Conduct regular audits and provide training on food safety practices.
- Coordinate with campus security teams to assess and mitigate security risks, develop emergency response plans and conduct regular fire and evacuation drills.
- Oversee building inspections, contractor compliance and maintenance work to ensure safety standards are met. Identify potential structural and environmental hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
- Design and deliver OHSE training programs for staff, students and contractors on topics such as emergency response, fire safety and first aid. Foster a safety-oriented mindset within the school community.
- Maintain records of incidents, inspections and training sessions. Submit regular reports to the Chief Business Services Manager, identifying improvement areas and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Perform detailed risk assessments for various school activities, including science labs, physical education, outdoor play and educational trips. Ensure that all high-risk areas and activities have tailored risk assessments and that staff are trained to manage these specific risks.
- Conduct annual OHSE audits across all campuses and provide detailed reports to the Chief Business Services officer. Recommend improvements, set action plans and follow up on implementation to maintain and elevate safety standards.
- Develop a systematic approach for reporting, investigating and documenting all incidents, near-misses and accidents. Create action plans based on incident reports to prevent future occurrences and enhance safety protocols, sharing learnings with school staff and leadership.
