The Nursing Officer of the Day (NOD) will provide 24/7 house-wide nursing leadership.? The incumbent is responsible for routinely reviewing work processes for optimal efficiency, safety, and resource management including but not limited to daily staffing, productivity, management of Nursing Hours per Patient per Day (NHPPD) and staffing effectiveness. ?The NOD serves as a resource to staff by giving advice, oversight, and instruction regarding work and administrative matters in accordance with policy and also functions within current competencies as a backup RN when needed. ?When managing house-wide staffing, the incumbent gives consideration to the difficulty and requirements of the assignments along with the capabilities and competencies of personnel. Additionally, the NOD hears and resolves complaints of personnel with referral of more serious complaints not resolved to high level supervisors (i.e., ACON, ADPCS/NE).?

Other duties include BMS coordination and utilization review for correct level of care. As a BMS/Bed Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for the placement of all admissions and transfers in accordance with medical center and unit specific guidelines. This includes collaborating with physician and nursing staff to prioritize admissions and transfers based on the medical needs of patients, communicating with involved departments to maximize efficiency/expedite the admission and/or transfer process, and coordinating outside referrals to ensure patients are placed in the appropriate venue of care. For utilization review, the incumbent provides leadership and assumes responsibility for conducting the administrative and scientific review of inpatient activities including, but not limited to, preadmission assessment, concurrent and retrospective care review, medical record screening, documentation of admission and continued stay necessity for all inpatient diagnoses and areas of care, and related process improvements.
