Health & Nutrition Advocacy Lead

The Health & Nutrition Advocacy Lead will report to Regional Senior Manager (Nutrition). This role will be instrumental in driving FIA’s mission to represent and support the food and beverage (F&B) industry across Asia. This role involves monitoring regulatory developments, providing expert guidance on health and nutrition policies, and supporting strategic initiatives that address emerging health and regulatory challenges.
He/ She should have a strong focus on nutrition, government policy making, and regulatory development as well as developing partnerships with relevant key stakeholders: regulators, professional bodies, academia etc. This role is ideal for a professional passionate about public health advocacy and skilled in fostering collaborative partnerships to support FIA agenda.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Policy Monitoring and Analysis:
- Stay informed about the developments in food regulations, public health policies, as well as industry standards across Asia.
- Provide regular updates and insights to FIA members on regulatory trends and potential impacts.
- Regularly updating FIA’s resources, including position paper, regulatory landscape as well as evidence bank.
- Act as a subject-matter expert on health and nutrition issues, focusing on topics such as Sugar Taxation, Front-of-Pack Labelling (FOPNL), Nutrient Profile Model (NPM), Marketing Restriction and other emerging public health concerns.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain alliances with NGOs, academia, professional bodies, and global/regional F&B associations.
- Advocate for science-based policies development by facilitating dialogue between industry and policymakers.
- Proactively engage with various taskforce members and drive the influencing strategies to gain consumers trust and stakeholders’ confidents in science-based policies/ regulations development.
Scientific Research Coordination:
- Lead the identification of research gaps and trends in health and nutrition.
- Design, conduct and coordinate scientific research, literature reviews and consumer perception studies to provide robust evidence and gather actionable insights that support FIA’s advocacy efforts.
- Design and develop research briefs and white papers that effectively communicate and navigate complex regulatory issues.
Media Messaging and Advocacy:
- Work closely with Public Affairs team in supporting the development and dissemination of media content to enhance public understanding on industry contributions.
- Leverage innovative communication strategies to amplify the industry’s voice.
Event and Dialogue Management:
- Plan and execute strategic events, including stakeholder dialogues, workshops, and seminars focused on health and nutrition issues.
- Collaborate in developing event agendas that are impactful and provide valuable insights for participants
- Actively engage with key opinion leaders (KOLs), regulators, academia, key industry representatives to bring diverse perspectives to the table and foster collaborative discussion; Ultimately, help bridging the gaps between industry and government objectives and ensuring alignment on health and nutrition goals.
Qualification & Desired Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition Science, Food Science/Technology, Public Health Science or related fields (Master’s degree is preferred).
- Minimum 8 – 10 years of experience in regulatory affairs, nutrition policy, or a related role, preferably within the food and beverage industry.
- Proven experience engaging with local governments and regulatory bodies in Asia is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of food regulations and public health policies in Asia; Familiarity with key health & nutrition topics, including sugar taxation, Front-of-Pack Labelling (FOPNL), marketing restriction, WHO guidelines and Codex standards.
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively represent FIA in various settings.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders and foster collaborative partnerships.
- Flexibility to travel or work outstation as required.
