Key Responsibilities:

Patient Assistance:

  • Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
  • Aid patients with mobility, including transferring them from beds to chairs, repositioning them, or helping them walk within the unit.
  • Support patients with eating and drinking, ensuring that their nutritional needs are met.
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) for patients with limited mobility or those recovering from surgery or illness.

Patient Observation & Monitoring:

  • Observe and monitor patients' general condition and report any changes to nursing staff (e.g., changes in physical appearance, behavior, or symptoms).
  • Assist in recording vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, oxygen levels) as directed by nurses.
  • Document patient care activities, such as assistance provided, changes in patient condition, and other relevant information.

Comfort & Emotional Support:

  • Provide companionship and emotional support to patients, helping to reduce anxiety and improve their overall experience during hospitalization.
  • Actively listen to patients' concerns and relay pertinent information to the nursing or medical staff.
  • Help patients maintain dignity and respect throughout their care by offering support with personal hygiene, comfort, and basic needs.

Cleanliness & Infection Control:

  • Ensure that patient rooms and surrounding areas are clean and tidy, including making beds, changing linens, and assisting with general cleanliness.
  • Adhere to infection control procedures, including hand hygiene and proper disposal of waste, to prevent the spread of infections.
  • Assist with sterilization and preparation of equipment and supplies, as needed.

Safety & Support:

  • Ensure that patients are safe in their environment, including monitoring for any potential hazards or obstacles that may cause injury.
  • Help maintain a safe, calm, and welcoming atmosphere on the unit for both patients and visitors.
  • Assist in patient fall prevention and implement safety protocols as directed by nursing staff.

Communication & Teamwork:

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with the healthcare team, including nurses, doctors, and other support staff, to ensure a coordinated and efficient approach to patient care.
  • Report any changes in patients' conditions, emotional well-being, or behavior to the appropriate healthcare professional.
  • Participate in team meetings, in-service training, and other activities to enhance patient care and your own professional development.

Miscellaneous Duties:

  • Assist in preparing patients for diagnostic tests, procedures, or treatments, ensuring they are comfortable and informed.
  • Transport patients to various departments (e.g., radiology, physical therapy) as needed.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by nursing or medical staff to ensure the smooth operation of the unit and patient care delivery.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A Care Assistant or Nursing Assistant qualification (e.g., NVQ, CNA) is preferred, though not always required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required or encouraged.
  • Experience:
  • Previous experience as a care assistant, nursing assistant, or similar role in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Experience in a hospital or clinical environment is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Skills:
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under the direction of registered nurses or physicians.
  • Basic knowledge of infection control and patient safety standards.
  • Ability to perform light physical tasks, including assisting with patient mobility and maintaining a clean environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to assist with patient movement, including lifting, turning, and supporting patients in various positions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for long periods during shifts.
  • May require lifting or moving items weighing up to 25-50 lbs (e.g., patient equipment, supplies).

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a hospital environment with exposure to various patient care situations, which may include infectious diseases and high-stress scenarios.
  • Regular shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on hospital needs.
  • On-call responsibilities may be required, depending on departmental needs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: RM1,500.00 - RM3,500.00 per month
