Job Overview:
As a Dental Surgery Assistant, you will be part of the clinical team, directly assisting the dentist during a variety of dental surgeries, procedures, and treatments. You will also be responsible for preparing and maintaining the surgical environment, ensuring patient safety, and providing outstanding patient care before, during, and after procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pre-Procedure Preparation:
- Prepare and sterilize dental instruments, surgical trays, and other equipment.
- Set up the operating room or surgery area, ensuring everything is properly organized and sterile.
- Verify patient identity and procedure details to ensure accuracy and safety.
- Prepare patients by explaining procedures, ensuring comfort, and assisting with positioning.
- Take and process radiographs (X-rays) and maintain records as needed for treatment planning.
- Assisting During Procedures:
- Assist the dentist during dental surgeries, including extractions, implants, root canals, periodontal procedures, and other surgical interventions.
- Handle instruments, materials, and equipment during the procedure in a way that minimizes the risk of cross-contamination and ensures a smooth workflow.
- Maintain a sterile field throughout procedures and assist with the efficient passing of tools and materials.
- Monitor the patient's condition, providing support and reassurance to keep them calm and comfortable.
- Assist with suctioning and retraction during surgeries, and manage any other necessary tasks to support the dentist’s work.
- Post-Procedure Care:
- Provide patients with post-operative care instructions, ensuring they understand their treatment plan and what to expect after the procedure.
- Monitor patients as they recover from anesthesia, ensuring they are stable and comfortable.
- Document surgical details, medications, and follow-up care in the patient’s medical records.
- Administrative and Operational Support:
- Maintain and organize patient files and medical records, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and accurate.
- Handle patient scheduling, ensuring surgical appointments are booked, confirmed, and properly managed.
- Assist with inventory management, including ordering and restocking dental supplies and ensuring that the clinic is well-equipped.
- Assist with billing and insurance verification as it relates to surgical procedures.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all infection control, sterilization, and KKM safety protocols.
- Ensure that the surgery environment meets all safety and regulatory standards.
- Participate in regular training and education regarding patient safety, equipment, and new surgical techniques.
- Education: Degree in any field, preferable admin/management/healthcare/social related
- Interest in Dental Care: A passion for the dental field and a strong desire to learn and grow within the profession.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with patients, dentists, and other team members.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to focus on tasks and ensure precision, especially in sterile and clinical environments.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and assist in physical tasks during surgeries.
- Team-Oriented: Ability to work well with others in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace.
- Computer Skills: Ability to keep up with current advancements
