Job Summary:
The Vegetarian Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious and appealing meals to the children and staff at the orphanage. This role ensures that food is prepared in a safe, sanitary, and efficient manner while adhering to dietary requirements, food safety standards, and budgetary constraints.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Meal Preparation and Planning:
- Prepare and cook meals, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, as per the set menu.
- Develop weekly meal plans in consultation with the superior, ensuring balanced and nutritious meals.
- Accommodate special dietary needs, allergies, or medical requirements.
2. Kitchen Operations:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic kitchen environment at all times.
- Ensure all cooking equipment and utensils are cleaned and properly maintained.
- Monitor food inventory and maintain an adequate stock of ingredients.
- Order and receive supplies in collaboration with the superior.
3. Food Safety and Hygiene:
- Adhere to food safety standards, including proper storage, handling, and preparation of ingredients.
- Monitor and record food temperatures to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Dispose of expired or spoiled food responsibly.
4. Budget Management:
- Work within the allocated budget to prepare cost-effective meals.
- Minimize food waste through effective planning and utilization of ingredients.
5. Support and Collaboration:
- Assist with organizing meals for special occasions or events at the orphanage.
- Collaborate with caregivers and other staff to ensure children’s dietary needs are met.
- Provide training or guidance to staff or volunteers assisting in the kitchen.
6. Other Duties:
- Perform tasks as assigned by the superior to support overall operations.
- Assist with the development and improvement of kitchen processes as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven experience as a cook, preferably in an institutional or large-scale setting.
- Knowledge of nutrition and meal planning, especially for children.
- Familiarity with food safety and sanitation standards.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a compassionate attitude toward children.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to follow recipes and manage budgets.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy pots or supplies as needed.
*6 days' work week

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: RM2,000.00 - RM2,500.00 per month
