Position Summary
This role is for a team and strategy leader within the Microbiology Lab. Responsible for organizing service requests of Microbiology Lab. Supervision of lab microbiologists and responsible for training, development of skills and resource management. This role is responsible for complete execution of deliverables related to microbiology testing. This role will also be responsible for laboratory inventory/supply management. This position will participate in new test method development for continuous improvement and capability expansion to support business needs.
NOTE: This role will be part of an internal lab transfer from our Kamunting site into our Kulim site. This will bring a need for project oversight and completion. With this will bring the need for a person with a desire to create successful laboratory foundation in processes, people and tools for future success.
Principal Responsibilities
  • Supervisory responsibilities and set work direction for a team of microbiologists
  • Prioritization of projects and responsible for adhering to committed deadlines
  • Develop test method validation strategies for LAL (bacterial endotoxin testing) and bioburden testing
  • Develop product validations to adopt into test procedures
  • Monitor execution of routine Bacterial Endotoxin Tests and product bioburden tests
  • Manage lab requests, execution, and output – clearly communicate status to stakeholders
  • Lead laboratory nonconformance investigations
  • Maintain stock of lab supplies and look for continuous improvement and cost improvement opportunities
  • Review and approve test results generated by the microbiology lab according to QMS and good documentation practices
  • Train microbiologists in validated test methods
  • Execute testing to support sterilization cycle revalidations and product change assessments
  • Serve as microbiology member on product development teams, as needed
  • Support as a microbiology SME during audits

Education / Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree required in a scientific discipline
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in microbiology laboratory, medical device related preferred
  • Laboratory testing experience with either bioburden testing or bacterial endotoxin testing
  • Experience working within a Quality Management System

Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work on cross functional teams
  • Thorough understanding of multiple disciplines within microbiology
  • Thorough understanding of basic laboratory requirements - including aseptic technique
  • Understanding of quality management system structure and good documentation practices (GDP)
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Proficient in technical report writing and review
  • Structured and methodical problem-solving approach
  • Ability to define, organize, delegate, and supervise individual and team tasks
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Ability to coordinate and execute activities involving multiple internal and external functions
  • Able to create and review technical documentation
  • Interpersonal skills; working in a team and as an individual contributor
  • Foster a positive culture of growth, collaboration, and achievement across the organization
