Job Summary: The School Lab Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of science laboratories, ensuring that the lab is prepared for lessons, experiments are conducted safely, and equipment is properly maintained. Key Responsibilities: 1.Preparation of Equipment and Materials: - Set up laboratory equipment and materials for science experiments as per the teacher's instructions. - Ensure all necessary chemicals, tools, and materials are available and organized. - Prepare solutions, specimens, and other materials needed for experiments. 2. Laboratory Maintenance: - Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment. - Clean and store equipment after use. - Perform regular checks on equipment and materials, reporting any damage or shortages. 3. Health and Safety: - Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations in the laboratory. - Handle chemicals and biological materials safely, adhering to safety guidelines. - Assist in the maintenance of safety equipment, such as eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits. 4. Assisting Students and Teachers: - Provide support to students during laboratory sessions, guiding them in the use of equipment and materials. - Assist teachers in demonstrating experiments and explaining lab procedures. - Supervise students in the laboratory, ensuring they follow safety protocols. 5. Administrative Duties: - Maintain accurate records of laboratory usage, inventory, and equipment maintenance. - Order and restock lab supplies as needed. - Assist in the organization and storage of lab reports and other documents. 6. Additional Duties: - Support other departmental needs as required, such as organizing field trips or participating in school events. - Participate in professional development and training opportunities to stay updated on laboratory practices. Qualifications: -A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; coursework or certification in science or laboratory technology is preferred. - Previous experience in a laboratory setting, particularly in an educational environment, is an advantage. - Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment, procedures, and safety protocols. - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. - Ability to work well with students, teachers, and other staff members. - Good communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to handle hazardous materials safely and responsibly.
