Assistant General Manager Engineering

Objective The Assistant General Manager - Engineering Department is responsible for leading, managing, and overseeing all maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities to ensure the operational efficiency, safety, and reliability of the company’s transportation fleet. This role involves strategic planning, resource optimization, compliance with industry standards, and ensuring timely delivery of services to support MARA Liner’s business objectives. Principle Accountabilities 1. Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement engineering strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with the company’s business goals. Lead and direct the engineering team while fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement. 2. Operational Management: Oversee the entire maintenance lifecycle, including preventive and corrective maintenance, minimizing vehicle downtime. Ensure effective resource allocation, staff productivity, and maintenance scheduling. 3. Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to all regulatory and safety standards set by industry and government bodies. Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments. 4. Budget and Cost Management: Prepare and manage the annual engineering budget. Ensure efficient cost control while maintaining high-quality maintenance services. 5. Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Conduct performance reviews and analysis, implement corrective actions where necessary. Prepare and present periodic operational reports and budget forecasts to senior management. 6. Vendor and Supplier Management Develop long-term relationships with vendors, suppliers, and contractors. Ensure service-level agreements are met and manage any contract disputes. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree or certifications in Fleet Management, Six Sigma, or PMP would be advantageous. Minimum of 5 years in a senior engineering management role. Proficiency in fleet management software and maintenance tracking systems. Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and industry best practices. Leadership & Soft Skills: Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex projects. Ability to manage pressure and adapt to fast-changing environments.
