The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and managing the migration of foundational data across systems. This role is critical in projects such as system upgrades, partner integrations, cloud migrations, mergers & acquisitions, or legacy system decommissioning. The engineer ensures that data is accurately and securely transferred without loss, corruption, or integrity issues while minimizing downtime and disruptions to the business.
Responsibilities
- Planning and Strategy
- Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., SAP functional consultants, process owners, business analysts, solution architects, DBAs) to understand the source and target systems and define data migration strategy and requirements.
- Conduct data assessments to evaluate the complexity of the migration, identifying potential challenges such as data quality issues or gaps in data structures.
- Create detailed migration plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and contingency plans, to ensure minimal downtime and system disruption.
- Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., SAP functional consultants, process owners, business analysts, solution architects, DBAs) to understand the source and target systems and define data migration strategy and requirements.
- Execution and Development
- Develop migration scripts or configure SAP migration tools, ETL pipelines to extract data from the source, transform it as needed, and load it into the target system.
- Implement data mapping and transformation logic, ensuring that data fields in the source system align with the target system's schema and that all business rules are adhered to.
- Perform test migrations (dry runs) to verify that data is transferred accurately and that the migration process functions as expected.
- Manage the actual data migration execution, including monitoring data transfer progress, troubleshooting issues, and adjusting processes as needed to ensure success.

- Data Quality and Validation
- Validate the data before and after migration to ensure its accuracy, completeness, and integrity, using automated data validation tools or manual checks.
- Implement data cleansing techniques (e.g., deduplication, normalization) to resolve any discrepancies or inconsistencies in the source data before migration.
- Collaborate with functional and QA teams to conduct post-migration testing, verifying that data in the target system functions correctly in business workflows.
- Validate the data before and after migration to ensure its accuracy, completeness, and integrity, using automated data validation tools or manual checks.
- Security and Compliance
- Ensure that data privacy and security standards are maintained during migration, including implementing encryption, access control, and audit logging mechanisms to safeguard sensitive data.
- Prepare for compliance audits by documenting the migration process and providing evidence that regulatory standards were followed.

- Troubleshooting and Support
- Troubleshoot and resolve any data migration errors or issues (e.g., missing records, integrity violations) during or after the migration. This includes migration issues specific to SAP, such as resolving IDOC processing errors, addressing missing master data in SAP ECC, or handling conversion issues in SAP S/4HANA
Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or Engineering or related disciplines
- Min. 1-3 years relavant working experience
- Hands-on expertise with SAP migration tools such as SAP Data Services (BODS), SAP Migration Cockpit, LSMW (Legacy System Migration Workbench), and IDOCs (Intermediate Documents) for transferring data.
- Familiarity with SAP tables, structures, and objects, ensuring accurate extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) from legacy systems to SAP
- Database Expertise: Strong knowledge of relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra)
- Data Migration Tools: Experience with tools such as Azure Data Migration Service, Informatica, Talend, ETL tools (Extract, Transform, Load), and custom migration scripts.
- Data Analysis: Strong capability to analyze large datasets, identify data anomalies, and ensure accurate mapping of source-to-target systems. Ability to analyze SAP master data (e.g., customers, vendors, materials) and transactional data (e.g., sales orders, purchase orders) for migration and transformation purposes
- Troubleshooting and Debugging: Ability to diagnose and resolve data migration issues, such as mismatches, integrity problems, IDOC failures, and performance bottlenecks.
- Project Scoping and Planning: Ability to participate in migration planning by estimating time, resource requirements, risks, and dependencies. Familiar with Agile or Waterfall methodologies for delivering migration projects.
