JOB PURPOSE

As the legal adviser primarily responsible for the strategic management of litigation and dispute resolution across the Group's businesses, providing cost effective and efficient support for the Group's priorities. Provide expert legal advice to safeguard the Bank/Group's interests and recommend changes for the Group to proceed in a safe and profitable manner. Provide legal guidance, drafting of negotiation support in a wide range of commercial proprietary contracts of the Group. Operate independently, requiring minimal guidance from HOD and seek management input on highly complex matters that may pose significant legal, financial or reputational risks to the Group. Accountable for leading the core team in meeting their portfolio deliverables and establish close mutually supportive working relationship with members of the team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide legal advice on litigation/ dispute resolution the Group's businesses in order that the Group's/business risk may be mitigated.
  • Ensure charge-outs of Legal Services are reported and allotted in accordance to Business Units.
  • Ensuring value for money and quality of legal services provided to the business units by Group Legal /or external solicitors.
  • Provide commercial proprietry contracts support including partnership, service agreements ensuring all risks, including reputational risks, are minimized.
  • Provide accurate and timely legal advice to the Bank's business units and branches, with practical and business-friendly solutions.
  • To create solutions by tailoring and structuring product packages to meet and for the benefit of the Bank/Group.
  • Direct and manage the Group's litigation and regulatory dispute matters and provide strategies to meet litigation and dispute resolution needs effectively.
  • Manage diverse stakeholders able to work in a dynamic environment, prioritizing workloads in terms of legal risk & commercial considerations.
  • Compliance with guidelines and protocols set out by the department and other relevant department within the Bank to ensure smooth running of daily work.
  • Plan and organize the system flows with the department and within the unit.
  • Manage legal counsels to ensure optimum performance and internal customer satisfaction.
  • To be proficient in applicable rules and procedures and ensure all staff is aware of applicable rules and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance by having adequate control measures in place to monitor the changes or updates in rules and procedures.
  • 10 years post admission experience in law relating to companies, banking, finance and litigation.
  • Able to interpret and explain to others complex legal concepts relating to business and banking.
  • Conversant with relevant laws and covenants.
  • Able to lead team in a facilitating and involving style.
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to build relationship across the LOBs lines of business as well as outside.
