Performance Targets:
(Coordinator Responsibilities)
- Understand the curriculum objectives for English (as a First Language) across all Key Stages, with specific expertise in the transition stages between Key Stages.
- Conduct one English Language Teaching themed CPD program per Term for junior Teachers or as directed.
- Assist the Head of Department (HoD) in the delivery of academic goals by focusing on Curriculum & Assessment, and be able to stand in for HoD for short term absences.
- Assist the HoD & all English teachers to ensure that all student subject needs are met and exceeded in keeping with School Teaching & Learning policies and curriculum requirements.
- Assist the HoD & all English teachers (within subject speciality and Key Stage) in refining teaching and learning strategies to better address student academic needs, ensuring continuity.
- Work closely with the Head of Key Stage (HoKS), analysing the distribution of marks in internal and/or external assessments to extract any evidence of,
- growing differences in performance between classes in the same Year group,
- growing differences between individual students in the same class,
- growing differences from one Year to the next and low performers in each class.
- Work closely with the HoKS and subject teachers to explain the likely causes of any academic changes.
- Convey all findings to the HoD in a timely manner.
(Teaching Responsibilities)
- Contribute towards the professional development of Teachers as a Mentor when directed to do so by the HoDiv/ HoKS.
- Able to effectively teach 2 subjects across multiple years (potentially spanning multiple Key Stages).
- Conduct one CPD program per Term for Teachers or as directed by the HoDiv, HoKS HoD, or HoCA.
- Show evidence of leadership qualities in non-classroom activities involving small groups of academic staff.
- Research and propose to the HoD new text books and/or work books which comply with the requirements of the Curriculum and which are more cost effective and/ or meet the needs of students and teachers better.
- Explore new teaching and learning strategies providing students a greater chance in achieving their individual potential. Communicate these experiences to other teachers either formally through CPDs, or informally in the staff room.
- Contribute towards the professional development of Trainee Teachers as a Mentor when directed to do so by the HoDiv/ HoKS.
- Able to effectively teach 2 subjects at one Key Stage level.
- Conduct one CPD per Term for Trainee Teachers or as directed by the HoDiv, HoKS, HoD, or HoCA.
- Adhere to the rules and regulations in all current elc Handbooks (e.g Employee Handbook, Teaching and Learning Policy, Guidelines & Procedures, Child Protection Policy, Health and Safety, etc).
- Plan, teach and manage assigned classes independently or in teams.
- Develop disciplined and appropriate behaviour of all students in school and outside of school during official School trips and activities.
- Monitor the academic and pastoral progress of students in one class as assigned by the HoDiv/ HoKS.
- Keep the HoDiv/ HoKS informed of any noticeable change in student progress or behaviour without delay.
- Work collaboratively as part of team led by the HoDiv/ HoKS to make up for absent colleagues and to share ideas and teaching/learning practices which have proven to be effective.
- Complete all administration work (e.g. class grades, test marks, mid + year end reports, subject comments, marking & feedback, etc) in a timely fashion and ensure the School’s Management System is up to date and error free.
- Keep dated records of all teaching plans and lesson reflections.
- Draft assessments and mark schemes and submit to the relevant HoD for checking and corrections to meet set deadlines.
- Mark and grade answer scripts regularly, correctly and impartially, always supplying timely and supportive feedback to students.
- Plan and achieve term by term progress in the academic and non-academic performance of all students regardless of their levels of ability.
- Plan and have adequate equipment and consumables for effective teaching in place for each class.
- Discussions with parents regarding the performance of children to be limited to scheduled parent/ teacher meeting.
- At all times interact with parents in a professional manner and tone.
- Maintain a conducive learning environment in the classroom.
- Monitor and review individual student progress and make appropriate interventions as and when required, or as directed by the HoDiv/ HoKS.
- Keep the environment of the classroom clean and tidy at all times, avoiding clutter.
- Carry out non-teaching duties as per arranged schedule (e.g. pick up, drop off, break, lunch and extended duties).
- Keep a digital record of reflections upon practices and self-improvement opportunities.
- Refer any queries/ visitors from a government department or agency to the Admin Executive Manager.
- Create a stimulating, positive and supportive learning environment which is well organised and demonstrates professional teaching practices of the highest quality.
- Use a range of teaching and assessment strategies to ensure that effective learning takes place.
- Adapt approaches to teaching, learning and assessment to meet individual learner needs (differentiated teaching), always complying with the guidelines set by the HoCA.
- Develop students capable of independent study and research.
- Develop and maintain Schemes of Work, in line with relevant HoD requirements.
