Roles and responsibilities:
Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
- Responsible for the implementation of approved network architecture and designs
- Specialize in one or more of the below functional areas to resolve escalations from tier 1 resources utilizing complex problem solving and network troubleshooting expertise. - IP Network Engineering - Expertise in Routing & Switching - IPv4/6, Unicast/Multicast, BGP, ISIS, OSPF, IPSEC, MPLS, QoS, EVPN, ECMP, and expert knowledge on OEM vendors.
- Serve as an escalation point for NOC engineers, providing guidance and expertise in resolving complex issues.
- Analyze network logs, packet captures, and diagnostic tools to identify root causes.
- Utilize packet analysis tools, network diagnostic utilities, and logs to diagnose and resolve complex issues.
- Collaborate with network equipment vendors, service providers, and third-party partners to integrate solutions, troubleshoot issues services.
Network Monitoring & Performance Optimization:
- Use network monitoring tools to monitor the health and performance of backbone network and crucial systems.
- Identify and respond to alerts and anomalies in real-time.
- Identify bottlenecks, congestion points, and areas for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance network performance.
Configuration and Maintenance:
- Configuration, installation, and maintenance of network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, access points or any other equipment when needed.
- Apply software updates, patches, and firmware upgrades as needed and perform planned maintenance activities.
- Evaluate and enhance network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls.
Documentation:
- Maintain & update documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and troubleshooting procedures in existing documentations.
- Maintain comprehensive network documentation, including network diagrams, IP address assignments, and equipment inventory.
Emergency Response:
- Act as an on-call resource for critical network incidents and outages.
- Work to restore services quickly and minimize downtime.
Training and Mentorship:
- Share knowledge and best practices with colleagues and mentor junior engineers.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for complex network issues.
Qualifications:
- Minimum one (1) year Routing Protocol experience – BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS
- Proficient in routing and switching technologies and protocols including TCP/IP, STP, VLAN, CDP, LACP, BGP, and ISIS/OSPF/EIGRP.
- Certified in CompTIA, CCNA/JNCIP, CCNP/JNCIP or equivalent is an added advantage.
- Experience in network devices and basic network appliances
- Knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Physical Media (Multimode Fiber, Singlemode Fiber, UTP, etc.), bridging, switching, routing, ethernet and transport technologies and protocols
- TCP/IP and the OSI Model
- Experience in network devices and basic network appliances
- Advanced knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio, Draw.io
- Good customer experience including managing task queues and liaising with external vendors or Enterprise customers.
- Good communication skills
