Responsibilities:
- Design and develop new injection moulds to produce plastic components that meet product specifications.
- Carry out simulation studies and 3D data studies on part design and mould design to ensure part mouldability.
- Participate in DFM discussions and DFMEA meetings as needed to ensure that the tools quoted are feasible and any potential issues identified early on and mitigated before tooling fabrication.
- Collaborate/feedback with product design engineers, manufacturing, NPI and QA team to ensure manufacturability of new designs and enhance existing products.
- Oversee the tooling process from concept through production, including resin and tooling material selection, prototype development, testing, and final production rollout.
- Lead and guide junior engineer to prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, DFM studies, mould flow studies, testing protocols, and process workflow.
- Support Tooling, Moulding and NPI departments by trouble shooting during validation.
- Analyse and improve injection moulding processes with emphasis on mould longevity and consistent parts moulded using various methodologies such as Six Sigma, Design of Experiments (DOE) or Lean Manufacturing.
- Conduct mould flow simulations and other DOE as needed to investigate defects and productivity issues that may be related to poor quality, defects, and increasing mould life.
- Review appearance & dimensional report and analyse the NG (Not Good) root cause or participate in 8D caused by tooling/ process parameter.
- Integration of DFx activities into the product development schedule; assuring that each product developed sets new standards in terms of quality, reliability and manufacturability.
- Strong technical aptitude including an excellent understanding of DFx methodologies, high volume manufacturing processes, assembly and molding, quality assurance on medical devices product development.
- Initiate and lead the efforts to identify and qualify second sources for material availability, cost reduction and quality purposes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s in Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology in Precision Engineering, or related field together with some formal theoretical training in Injection Moulding or tool making or Bachelor of Engineering in Plastic Injection Moulding.
- Expertise in Injection Moulding Tooling with 3 to 5 years of experience.
- Experiences in mold machine setup, troubleshooting and process development.
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- SolidWorks, Catia or equivalent, able to review design using above software and carry out analysis on parts and tools.
- Understanding of polymer science and properties of different plastics
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma.
- Working knowledge of problem-solving methods such as 5 Why, Ishikawa, 4M, etc.
