Job description
A Civil Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and oversight of construction projects and infrastructure, including buildings, roads, bridges, dams, and water supply systems. They ensure these projects are structurally sound, sustainable, and meet regulatory standards. Their work involves project planning, design, and supervision to ensure successful completion on time and within budget.
Their duties and responsibilities include:
Project Planning and Design:
- Develop and design detailed blueprints and layouts for infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, buildings, and water supply systems.
- Conduct site investigations, including environmental impact assessments, topographical surveys, and soil testing.
- Prepare engineering plans and designs using CAD and other engineering software.
- Ensure all designs comply with local building codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards
Project Management:
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Liaise with clients, architects, contractors, and local authorities to coordinate all aspects of the project.
- Prepare detailed project reports, documentation, and permits.
- Prepare and review cost estimates, budgets, and procurement schedules for materials.
Site Investigation and Analysis:
- Conduct surveys and analyse data from site investigations, including soil testing, topographical surveys, and environmental conditions.
- Assess risks related to geological or environmental factors and design structures to minimize these risks.
Construction Supervision:
- Oversee and supervise the construction process to ensure compliance with design specifications and industry standards.
- Coordinate and manage on-site activities, including the work of contractors, laborers, and subcontractors.
- Monitor construction quality, safety standards, and work progress.
- Provide technical guidance and resolve any design or construction issues that arise.
Cost Estimation and Budgeting:
- Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and timelines for projects.
- Track project costs and expenses, identifying any cost-saving opportunities or budget overruns.
- Procure materials and equipment in line with project specifications and budget.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure that all civil works comply with local, state, and federal building codes and safety regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and safety audits on the job site to identify potential hazards.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections, promoting a culture of safety on site.
- Prepare and submit required regulatory documents for permits and approvals.
- Collaborate with environmental experts to ensure sustainable project development
Maintenance and Repair:
- Provide recommendations for the maintenance, renovation, and repair of infrastructure projects.
- Analyse existing structures to determine their longevity and sustainability.
- Evaluate existing structures and infrastructure to determine necessary maintenance or repair works.
- Provide technical solutions for improving durability, safety, and efficiency in current infrastructure systems
Sustainability and Innovation:
- Focus on sustainability by incorporating eco-friendly materials and energy efficient designs.
- Research and apply new construction technologies and methodologies.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) license is often required.
Experience:
- More than 5 years of experience in large-scale civil infrastructure projects.
- Extensive experience in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and contractor supervision.
- Expertise in complex design projects, including roads, bridges, power plants, water systems, and public infrastructure.
- Leadership experience in managing teams and multi-disciplinary engineering efforts.
- Advanced knowledge of environmental and safety regulations, with a focus on sustainability
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and other design tools.
- Strong understanding of structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, and hydrology.
- Excellent project management skills, including budget management, scheduling, and risk assessment.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
- Leadership and team management skills for guiding contractors, laborers, and junior engineers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting, documentation, and client interaction.
Analytical Skills:
Ability to conduct technical calculations and risk assessments.
Communication Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication for working with clients, contractors, and team members.
Problem-Solving:
Ability to troubleshoot issues during design or construction and provide effective solutions.
Leadership:
Strong leadership and team management skills for overseeing construction teams and contractors.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Contract
Contract length: 24 months
Pay: RM6,000.00 - RM9,000.00 per month
