We are excited to announce an opportunity with Longitude for a Transportation & Installation (T&I) Engineering Director APAC, to lead ABL Group’s Transportation & Installation (T&I) Engineering business in Asia Pacific. This pivotal role involves overseeing business strategy, P&L, and project execution while coordinating teams and resources across multiple countries to deliver world-class marine and offshore solutions. The transportation & Installation (T&I) Engineering business line consists of Consultancy, engineering (design and analysis), development of method statements, planning, risk assessment, and supervision of various marine and offshore operations such as:
  • Loadout
  • Wet and dry tows,
  • Float overs,
  • Upendings,
  • Dockings/undockings,
  • Launchings,
  • Heavy lifting,
  • Skidded transportation,
  • Anchor handling,
  • Pipe lay / pipe repairs,
  • Submarine cable lay / repairs,
  • Stationkeeping (mooring, dynamic positioning, and tug), and
  • Hookups.
We are seeking applications from Singapore, Shanghai, Tianjin, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City, but the candidate should have the right to live and work in any of the countries mentioned. Candidate should be willing to travel to undertake work in overseas locations from time to time.


What you will be doing.


As our Transportation & Installation (T&I) Engineering Director APAC, you will spearhead the strategic direction and financial performance of our Transportation & Installation Engineering business across Asia Pacific. You’ll lead multidisciplinary teams, ensuring successful project execution and client satisfaction while fostering strong relationships with stakeholders. Your expertise will drive innovative solutions in marine and offshore operations, shaping the future of our business. In addition, you will:
Management
  • Plan work-load (short and long term), participating in and advising on regional recruitment needs.
  • Identify prospects and new opportunities.
  • Liaise with other sector leads and regional management (of both the ABL and Longitude brands) with respect to forward planning and common strategy, and with the global and other regional leads for the Transportation & Installation Engineering business line
  • Develop and deliver of business line strategy
  • Be responsible for delivering the P&L for the business line and budgets for future years.
  • Oversee invoicing and cash collection activities with support from finance to ensure compliance with WIP and cash collection targets.
  • Oversee the management of projects in terms of safety, quality, schedule, financial performance, and (in combination with discipline heads) resources.
  • Review and approval of tenders in accordance with the delegation of authority matrix.
  • Identify R&D opportunities, engage with regional director and other sector and discipline heads for approval of R&D opportunities. Oversight of R&D projects.

Marketing/Business Development, & Sales
  • In combination with marketing support, develop sales and marketing plan and marketing materials.
  • Oversee all marketing, business development, and sales activities within the sector.
  • Prepare proposals for bids and tenders.
  • Support day-to-day client management activities with clients
  • Support and undertake tendering activities.
  • Partaking in activities to promote the business and develop new clients.
Training
  • Identify training needs within the relevant teams.
  • Work with discipline leads to deliver identified training.
  • Work with a wider group to identify training opportunities.
  • Identify one’s training requirements to maintain continued professional development.
  • Support the training and development of engineers within the business line teams.
QHSE
  • Ensure familiarity within the business line team of compliance with internal policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance and familiarity with business-line specific standards within the business line team
  • Ensure projects delivered in accordance with company procedures and work with discipline leads to ensure that discipline-appropriate procedures are followed.
  • Ensure safety requirements on the HSE procedures are followed for staff working outside of the office.
  • Follow the requirements of the QHSE management systems.
Technical Role
  • Undertake technical consultancy / chargeable work as required.
  • Develop existing and new technical competencies in alignment with the business needs.
General
  • Represent the interests of all Group companies to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in all business activities.
  • Support other business line leads as required for projects or clients and during periods of leave
  • And any other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for.


To excel in this role, you must possess exceptional leadership and strategic vision, with a proven track record in managing multidisciplinary teams and driving business growth. Strong technical expertise in marine and offshore operations, combined with a focus on client satisfaction and innovation, is essential. Effective communication and collaboration skills are crucial to aligning strategies and achieving operational excellence. In addition, you will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Offshore Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a relevant field.
  • Minimum 15 years of industry experience, with at least 7 years in transportation, installation, or marine operations engineering.
  • Proven experience in Project Engineering and Project Management, with a strong technical background.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage engineering teams effectively.
  • Experience in marketing, business development, and sales.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles, standards, and practices.
  • Proficiency in using offshore/marine structural or naval architecture analysis and design software.
  • Energetic, forward-thinking, and creative, with high ethical standards and a professional demeanour.
  • Strong organizational and business acumen, with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • A collaborative team player with a proactive mindset and sound decision-making abilities.
  • Strong passion for the marine, offshore, and energy sectors.
  • Detail-oriented, with high numerical accuracy and strong prioritization skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills in Mandarin.
Desirable:
  • A master’s degree (or equivalent) in a technical field such as naval architecture, offshore engineering, or structural engineering.
  • A degree in business administration and/or finance.
  • Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience in a company similar to ABL’s market domain.
  • Proven experience working within matrix organizations.
  • Familiarity with efficient sales organizations.
  • Proficiency in using engineering software like ANSYS, AQWA, MOSES, OrcaFlex, STAAD, etc.
