Manage regular laboratory operational activities in the BR Metals plants including all analysis, work planning, scheduling, testing and validation required to meet internal and external customer requirements. 1. Manage Laboratory Operations • Interpret laboratory operation and management system and procedures to ensure compliance of SOPs and HSE regulations in the laboratory • Perform ad-hoc, intermediate and final testing • Validate laboratory equipment • Review laboratory procedures and documentation and suggest improvements to enhance quality, health, and safety standards • Interpret laboratory maintenance and calibration procedures to identify need for vendor to service, perform maintenance or calibration of laboratory equipment • Interpret laboratory data management systems and procedures on record, access and retrieve data to analyse data and reports • Participate in the conduct of risk assessment, hazard identification and categorisation • Provide technical assistance to internal department to answer customers’ enquiries or improve operational performance 2. Manage Samples • Implement sample management systems and procedures and facilitate the review of the systems and procedures • Coordinate and apply sampling methods and techniques according to SOPs • Coordinate sample preparation, sampling, labelling, transportation, storage, and disposal • Store samples correctly following policies and procedures • Coordinate and monitor sample storage conditions • Interpret SDS information for sample handling • Ensure the correct selection and use of PPE within team members 3. Develop New Technological Testing Methods • Interpret the aims and objectives of research projects • Identify potential constraints on project requirements and highlight factors impacting research procedures • Assist in the communication to stakeholders for endorsement and commitment • Assist in the collection of relevant industry information and participate in the formulation of policies • Assist in the analysis of data in experiment in relation to standards, or given reference points • Support the design of experiments and tests according to project and market needs • Track methods used and ongoing research in the precious metal refining industry 4. Perform Laboratory Data Analysis and Reporting • Verify the accuracy and integrity of laboratory data analysis reports • Review calculated results against estimations and expectations • Develop formulae to calculate statistical values, scientific quantities, and associated uncertainties for relevant test data • Analyse trends in test data and calculate results to draw key insights • Document data in accordance with BR Metals requirements • Present key data trends and findings in appropriate formats • Maintain security and confidentiality of data in accordance with company’s requirements 5. Manage New Laboratory Project • Scope and drive medium scale projects • Develop realistic project plans based on assessment of project objectives, scope and potential interdependencies with other projects • Implement appropriate methodologies and tools to achieve desired outcome effectively • Manage project risks and develop plans to mitigate them • Investigate project exigencies, identify and address their root causes • Engage internal and external stakeholders timely on matters that are impacted by the projects’ processes and outcomes • Manage resources allocated to different parts of the project, based on assessment of project priorities • Coordinate completion of project deliverables within agreed costs, timescale, and resources Skills and Knowledge Educational & Professional Qualifications • At least Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry or any other equivalent qualifications. • Minimum 5 years of working experience in of laboratory management experience. Relevant Experience • Familiar with ICP detection precious metal technology, and have no less than 3 years of ICP laboratory testing experience • Master gold and silver detection and recovery and refining technology. • Ability to analyse high purity PGM (Platinum, Palladium, Rhodium, Iridium, Osmium, Ruthenium). • Have experience in setting up and overseeing the ICP Testing lab including the license application from the relevant authorities. • Have experience choose and setting up of equipment and processes to recover precious metals recovery including gold, silver, platinum, palladium is an advantage. Best if he or she is experienced in recovery rhodium. • Experience in ISO renewals will be an added advantage. • Must be able to converse and read well in English Personal Characteristics & Behaviours Analytical and critical thinking with an open mind for creativity Ability to work at strategic level as well as possessing the discipline to handle details Strong communications skills to interface and relate to the different strata in the organisation and cultures Ability to influence and negotiate desire end results
