The Plant Maintenance team at Smith & Nephew Operations Malaysia ensures that all equipment and systems, including CNC milling machines, lathes, grinding, deburring, and niche equipment, are in efficient working condition to support production and employee safety. Their responsibilities include preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance while maintaining spare part inventory at an efficient level. All activities enforce to the medical device industry's quality.
What will you be doing?
The maintenance team is responsible for crafting and managing documents to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards, including OSHA requirements. Their duties involve planning, scheduling, and performing preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on various equipment. They troubleshoot issues by evaluating mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, utilizing blueprints and manuals to guide repair work. The team also maintains an adequate spare parts' inventory to minimize machinery downtime and utilizes the SAP Plant Maintenance (SAP PM) system for all maintenance-related activities.
Additionally, the maintenance team actively participates in production meetings and analyzes equipment performance data to identify trends and propose preventive actions. They prepare maintenance reports, identify improvement opportunities, and lead initiatives to improve efficiency. Compliance with HSE policies and regulations is crucial, as the team strives to prevent injuries, environmental pollution, and energy waste. Reporting HSE incidents and providing feedback for improvements are also key responsibilities in maintaining a safe and balanced work environment.
What will you need to be successful?
The ideal candidate for the maintenance role should possess a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering, or a Diploma/Technical certificate in a related field, along with over five years of meaningful work experience. A minimum of three years of maintenance experience in a similar role is helpful, particularly involving electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Candidates with experience in metal or plastic CNC machining and those who have worked in a medical plant will be at an advantage.
Proficiency in general PC skills is crucial, along with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Familiarity with PLC programming and CNC programming is beneficial, as is knowledge of the SAP PM system. The physical demands of the position include the ability to stand or walk for more than 50% of the workday, as well as the capacity to sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl for similar durations. The role requires lifting to 25 lbs (11.34 kg) and involves visual acuity, including close, distance, colour, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
