Reports To: Head of System Engineering Experience: 5-10 years Role Overview The Network Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's network security infrastructure. This role focuses on safeguarding the network against internal and external threats, ensuring compliance with security policies, and maintaining system integrity. Additionally, the engineer will provide backup support for essential system administration tasks when required, contributing to seamless IT operations. Key responsibilities include managing firewalls, intrusion detection systems, monitoring and responding to security incidents, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance overall security posture. The role requires a strong understanding of security protocols, and proficiency in both network security tools and basic system administration. Key Areas of Responsibilities: Develop and implement comprehensive network security and system administration strategies aligned with business goals. Design, implement, and manage a robust network and cloud infrastructure that supports the company’s operational requirements. Oversee the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of network devices (routers, switches, firewalls) and cloud services. Ensure high availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery capabilities across all network and cloud systems. Develop and enforce security policies and procedures to protect network and cloud resources from internal and external threats. Implement security controls, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption protocols. Monitor network and cloud performance using advanced tools and analytics, identifying and resolving issues proactively. Manage the escalation of complex technical issues, providing expert guidance to ensure timely resolution. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and operating procedures. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including IT, Cybersecurity, and Business Units, to understand and address their network and cloud needs. Manage external service providers and consultants, ensuring alignment with the company’s infrastructure goals. Provide regular reports on infrastructure status, including operational metrics, and project progress. Lead initiatives to continuously improve the performance, reliability, and security of the network and cloud infrastructure. Design, implement, and maintain firewall, VPN, and other security infrastructure to safeguard our network. Monitor and respond to security alerts, ensuring timely identification, resolution, and mitigation of security threats and vulnerabilities. Manage firewall rule sets, conduct regular security audits, and maintain logs as per compliance standards. Collaborate with the Cybersecurity team to develop and apply security policies, including access control, incident response, and data protection. Coordinate to troubleshoot network security incidents and connectivity issues. Assist with DR and backup configurations as part of security readiness. System Administration (Backup) Act as a secondary contact for system administration, handling BAU tasks such as: Routine server and system health checks, including resource usage, disk space, and service status. Basic troubleshooting for server issues, including restart or reboot operations. Assist in scheduling and monitoring automated backup jobs and running ad-hoc backups when required. Support the configuration and maintenance of monitoring tools and other key systems supporting the network and infrastructure. Collaboration and Documentation Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including System Administrators and Cybersecurity professionals, to ensure secure and efficient operations. Document all network configurations, changes, and troubleshooting steps in a clear and organized manner. Prepare regular reports on network security status and any incidents or changes for review by management. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 5-10 years of experience in network security, with hands-on experience in firewall management, VPN configuration, and network monitoring. Strong knowledge of security protocols, network architectures, and best practices for securing on-premise and cloud environments. Proficiency in firewall management (e.g., Juniper vSRX, Fortigate, Palo Alto) and network security monitoring tools. Basic system administration skills, including knowledge of Linux/Windows server environments and fundamental scripting for task automation. Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+, or Juniper Networks Certification are a plus. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. Preferred Skills Familiarity with cloud network environments, especially IBM Cloud or AWS. Experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix) and log management. Basic experience with backup solutions and disaster recovery planning.
