Your new role
The position is responsible for the overall management of a complete set of accounts and financial reporting on the University’s accounting systems. The position is also required to assist with implementing, monitoring and enhancing internal control systems in line with the University’s financial management objective as well as performing other related financial duties such as data analysis and research, keeping close watch on expenses, and initiating expense-saving and tax-saving solutions. Function as Financial Controller in his/her absence.
Key responsibilities
Financial Duties
- Fully in charge of the University’s accounting records that traces and records the Company’s assets, liabilities, income and expenditures, and efficient management of them to ensure they are accurately and timely updated in the University’s accounting and other related systems.
- Supervises the closing of the books every month end, checks and reconciles all the general ledgers, prepares and presents the University’s financial statements in accordance with GAAP and FRS and ensures that they are legitimate and complete.
- Establishes, assures, evaluates and enhances internal accounting controls and policies that are functional and adequate, and to see if there are opportunities for improvement.
- Analyses financial data, keeps a check over the expenses, detects key trends, and initiates/recommends expense-saving and/or tax-saving solutions that will benefit the fiscal health of the University.
- Any other duties that may be deemed appropriate to the role.
Management Duties
- Supervises the work and professional development of employees in his/her area of responsibility.
- Allocate workload, delegates work assignments, ensures that all daily work is completed and establishes clear expectation for accounting staff.
- Resolves finance related queries and provides support to team members.
- Maintains good suppliers, bankers, auditors and customer relationships.
- Functions as Financial Controller in his / her absence.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A recognized degree in Accountancy.
- At least five years of accounting or auditing experience in a responsible position with demonstrated ability to handle full set of accounts of a medium size organization and supervision of a team of accounting staff.
- Possess good organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Able to handle high volume workload and multiple priorities, work under pressure and meet targets and deadlines.
- Self motivated and enthusiastic, able to work effectively with minimal management guidance and supervision.
- Good level of competence in spreadsheets and computerized accounting softwares.
- Excellent communication skills and good command of spoken and written English.
- A member of MIA or equivalent professional body is an added advantage.
