Job Title: Staff Engineer (HSE)

Location: Johor, Malaysia

Summary of Position:

Alcon is looking to hire a Staff Engineer to join our HSE team at Johor in Malaysia. The incumbent will be involved in General Environmental and Employee Health & Safety work encompasses activities related to the environment (including the broader community impacted by environmental hazards) and employees including creating and implementing health, safety, occupational and environmental programs to prevent injuries and illnesses within the workplace and environmental accidents, inspecting workplace and environmental incidents in accordance with company procedures and implementing corrective actions, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements related to environmental and employee health and safety and identifying areas for improvement, developing and managing an environmental and employee health & safety training plan as well as maintaining relationships with the community, environmental groups, and other stakeholders impacted by the environmental performance of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adherence to Alcon values and standards, observe and ensure full compliance with Alcon Code of Business Conducts.

  • Work with line management to ensure HSE policies/ guidelines and programs are being implemented successfully through proper and effective risk assessment and control measures, standard operating procedure (SOP) development and deployment, HSE audit & inspection, and HSE data updating and performance monitoring & review.

  • Responsible for monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe situations

  • Develop measures to assure personnel safety

  • Correct unsafe acts or conditions throughout the regular line of authority

  • Participate in planning meetings to identify any health and safety concerns inherent in the operation’s daily work-plan

  • Review the incident action plan for safety implications Investigate accidents that have occurred within incidents areas Inspects the site to ensure it is a hazard-free environment

  • Conduct investigations of all accidents and near-misses, incidents to determine root causes

  • Carry out PTW approval, monitoring, and review Responds to employees’ safety concerns

  • Develop and implement ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Management Systems.

  • Train and carry out drills and exercises on how to manage emergency situations

  • Report to concerned authorities as requested or mandated by regulations

  • Responsible for handling duty as the competent person for CePSWaM Responsible for managing the eSWIS system for reporting to DOE as per statutory requirements.

  • Hazardous Waste & Non-Hazardous Waste Management

  • HSE Management System (ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 implementation)

  • Annual Review of HSE SOP

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Preferred education: Diploma or Degree holder in a Science or Engineering discipline or equivalent.

  • Must be registered as a Safety and Health Officer with DOSHCertified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management (CePSWaM)

  • Preferred Experience: At least 3 years of working experience in the manufacturing industry or relevant field.

  • Good knowledge of related laws and regulatory requirements such as the OSH Act, Environmental Act, and BOMBA SOP.

  • Knowledge about workplace risk assessment methodologies and techniques.

  • Experience in writing reports and policies for environmental, health, and safety.
