Job description

An Electrical Engineer typically has experience in designing, developing, and managing electrical systems, with a focus on ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance with industry standards. They have hands-on experience with creating electrical schematics, testing equipment, and troubleshooting complex electrical issues.

Their role often involves coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, overseeing project implementation, and ensuring that systems are designed and operated according to local regulations and client needs. Many also have experience working in specific industries such as power generation, oil & gas, or renewable energy, and may hold professional certifications or licenses.

Their duties and responsibilities include:

Design and Development:

  • Design, develop, and test electrical systems, equipment, and components, including power generation and distribution systems.
  • Develop electrical systems and components, including power distribution, lighting, wiring, and control systems.
  • Design electrical circuits, systems, and devices using CAD software and simulation tools.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and energy efficiency guidelines.
  • Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout designs.

Testing and Analysis:

  • Conduct tests and simulations on electrical systems and equipment to ensure performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems in electrical equipment or systems, providing technical solutions.

Project Management:

  • Oversee the installation and commissioning of electrical systems in projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other engineers to ensure timely and successful project completion.
  • Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for electrical work.
  • Manage electrical engineering projects from inception through completion, ensuring they meet specifications, budget, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and project managers.

Testing and Troubleshooting:

  • Conduct tests and simulations to verify the functionality and safety of electrical equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical system issues, ensuring systems comply with safety and regulatory standards.

Compliance and Standards:

  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC) and local regulations.
  • Implement and maintain compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Prepare technical reports, manuals, and documentation for projects.
  • Assist in regulatory audits and inspections related to electrical systems.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including reports, manuals, and procedures.
  • Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and clients.

Maintenance and Support:

  • Provide ongoing maintenance and support for electrical systems, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Implement preventative maintenance procedures to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.

Maintenance and Operations:

  • Oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical systems.

Innovation and Improvement:

  • Research and implement new technologies and methods to improve electrical system performance.
  • Focus on energy efficiency and sustainability by incorporating renewable energy sources and optimizing power usage.

Client and Vendor Coordination:

  • Work with vendors to procure electrical components and ensure materials meet required specifications.
  • Engage with clients to understand their requirements and provide solutions.

Requirements:

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., PE, FE) is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of electrical theory, power generation, and distribution systems.
  • Experience with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, MATLAB).
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and safety standards (e.g., IEEE, NEC).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Project management experience is beneficial.

Experience:

  • More than 5 years of experience in electrical engineering or related fields.
  • Experience in specific sectors (e.g., hydro power generation, oil & gas, construction) may be preferred.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Contract
Contract length: 24 months

Pay: RM7,000.00 - RM9,000.00 per month
