The Assistant Import Manager serves as a pivotal force in orchestrating the intricate symphony of international trade logistics and documentation, ensuring the seamless movement of goods across borders while upholding the highest standards of compliance with complex customs regulations.

Key Activities/Accountabilities:

1. Coordinate with suppliers, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and shipping companies to arrange shipments

2. Ensure that all imports comply with local and international trade regulations, including customs clearance, tariffs, taxes, and import permits

3. Prepare, review, and submit customs documentation, ensuring that all required forms are completed in compliance with regulations

4. Stay updated on changing customs and import laws to maintain compliance and minimize delays.

5. Communicate regularly with suppliers to confirm shipment schedules, pricing, and inventory needs to reduce costs and improve efficiency

6. Prepare regular reports for management on import performance, costs, and any issues or challenges encountered during the process.

7.Address and resolve any issues related to shipment delays, damaged goods, or customs clearance complications

8. Support and guide junior logistics or import staff, providing training and ensuring compliance with company procedures

Preferred Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:

1. A degree or diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Business Administration, or a related field. Proven experience in import operations, logistics coordination, or customs compliance.

2. Strong understanding of local and international trade regulations, including customs procedures, tariffs, and import permits.

3.Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with suppliers, shipping companies, and customs brokers.

4.Ability to address and resolve shipment delays, damaged goods, and customs clearance issues effectively.

5.Proficiency in using logistics software and tools for shipment tracking, documentation, and reporting.

6. Good in leadership, experience in training and guiding junior staff, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.

7. Meticulous in preparing and reviewing customs documentation to ensure compliance and avoid errors.
