Operations Support Engineer (Database)

Key Responsibilities: Database Management and Support: Oversee and maintain production, staging, and development databases (e.g., MSSQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle). Monitor database performance and health using tools and scripts to ensure minimal downtime. Perform backups, restores, and recovery according to business continuity plans. Optimize queries, indexes, and configurations for better performance. Implement security measures, including user access controls and encryption. Operations Support: Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, collaborating with application and development teams. Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures. Monitor logs, alerts, and performance metrics to identify potential issues. Provide on-call support for database-related problems as part of a rotational schedule. Deployment and Maintenance: Plan and apply schema changes, patches, and updates with minimal impact on systems. Work with DevOps and development teams to automate deployments and database provisioning. Manage migrations and upgrades, ensuring data integrity and compatibility. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation for configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting. Create reports on database usage, performance, and capacity planning for management review. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in database administration or similar roles. Expertise in MSSQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle. Hands-on experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and complex troubleshooting. Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions. Proficiency in scripting (SQL, Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation. Familiarity with monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds). Basic understanding of cloud-based databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud Spanner). Experience in IT Operations & Support or the stockbroking industry (3–5 years).
