A Commis 1 is an entry-level position in a professional kitchen, responsible for assisting senior chefs in the preparation and production of high-quality food. This role involves a variety of tasks, from basic food preparation to assisting with more complex culinary techniques. Key Responsibilities: * Food Preparation: * Assisting with the preparation of ingredients, such as chopping, peeling, and cleaning vegetables and meats. * Marinating and seasoning food items as directed. * Preparing stocks, sauces, and dressings. * Portioning and plating food items. * Kitchen Maintenance: * Maintaining a clean and organized work area. * Washing and sanitizing dishes, pots, and pans. * Assisting with stock rotation and inventory management. * Order Fulfillment: * Accurately fulfilling food orders in a timely manner. * Ensuring the quality and presentation of all dishes. * Teamwork & Communication: * Working effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. * Communicating effectively with chefs and other kitchen staff. * Following instructions and adhering to kitchen policies and procedures. * Learning & Development: * Eagerness to learn new skills and techniques. * Observing and assisting senior chefs in their duties. * Participating in training sessions and workshops. Qualifications: * Experience: 0-1 year of experience in a professional kitchen preferred, but not required. * Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. * Skills: * Strong knife skills and food handling techniques. * Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. * Attention to detail and a focus on quality. * Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures. Physical Demands: * Ability to stand for extended periods. * Ability to lift and carry heavy objects. * Ability to work in a hot and humid environment.
