Head of Engineering

Job Purpose

The Head of Engineering is responsible for leading and directing multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure the successful delivery of innovative and efficient engineering solutions. This role involves strategic planning and the implementation of controls and guidelines to meet project requirements, drive operational excellence, and foster a culture of continuous improvement in engineering design, processes, and operations. As the cornerstone of project success, the Head of Engineering ensures that all initiatives begin with robust engineering and design.

Accountabilities

• Engineering Oversight: Ensure that all engineering works meet high standards of accuracy and quality, aligning with industry best practices while maintaining a strong focus on health, safety, and environmental excellence.
• Team Leadership: Lead a team of over 100 engineers across various disciplines, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, mentoring and professional development while ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Operational Efficiency: Drive engineering operations to align with the overall business plan, integrating skills and knowledge to deliver innovative solutions and enhance operational effectiveness.
• Project Management: Manage projects with a focus on technical report writing, supervision of drawing production, project progress reporting, contract administration, and quality assurance activities, ensuring project competitiveness and excellence.
• Regulatory Compliance: Provide guidance on rules and regulations to ensure compliance with legal guidelines, environmental directives, and HSE requirements.
• Budget and Cost Management: Oversee project estimation and budget preparation, with a strong emphasis on cost control, monitor and control operating costs, and ensure expenditures align with financial targets.
• Interdepartmental Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments to ensure engineering and project compliance, fostering effective communication and teamwork.
• Innovative Design Solutions: Maintain a hands-on approach in overseeing engineering activities, ensuring practical and effective solutions to complex challenges and contributing to the engineering design process.

Requirements

1. Experience: A minimum of 20-25 years in complex projects, including design, planning, construction, and project management/detail engineering/epcc for offshore/onshore oil and gas production, petrochemicals, refineries, and/or industrial manufacturing plant projects. Experience and proven success design and engineering in off-site facilities and storage tanks are preferred
2. Leadership: Demonstrated success in managing and leading engineering projects with budgets exceeding USD 200 to 300 million, including managing diverse engineering teams and discipline leads, with a deep understanding of handling highly complex projects.
3. Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and industry practices, with strong capability to manage relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
4. Project Management Skills: Strong skills in budget management, scheduling, and resource allocation, with experience in EPCC projects.
5. HSE and Quality Assurance: Experience in establishing project HSE and quality goals, monitoring, and controlling performance to ensure compliance and excellence.
6. Software Proficiency: Proficiency in advanced engineering software and tools is required, enhancing project design and execution efficiency.
7. Cost Control Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise in cost control is key to ensuring financial efficiency and project success.
8. Mentorship and Development: Proven ability to mentor and develop engineering teams, driving innovation and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

Educational Background

A bachelor’s degree in engineering (petroleum, mechanical, chemical, or related fields) is required, with a preference for candidates who hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license. An advanced degree in engineering is also considered a plus but not necessary.
